New Project Announcement: Former Debenhams, Chatham High Street
We are thrilled to announce the start of a major new project!
Benning Brothers Ltd has been entrusted with the complete strip-out of the former Debenhams on Chatham High Street. Working in close partnership with Medway Council, making effective use of redevelopment funding from the UK Government Fund, we are committed to ensuring a smooth, efficient transformation of this space to give it a new lease of life after almost 50 years as an iconic department store in the centre of Chatham.
What’s involved?
- Careful planning to maintain a high level of health, safety, and sustainability throughout the process.
- Removal of all electrical and mechanical items including escalators, lifts, sprinkler systems, and containment.
- Full removal of all the mechanical roof plant allowing for Medway Council's future plans for the building.
- Strip out of all partitions, wall linings, floor finishes, staffrooms, canteen, and office spaces bringing the whole building back to a shell and core.
- Design and infill of solid plank flooring throughout the ground and 1st floors where existing escalators have been removed.
- Monitoring waste removal and recycling looking to reduce the environmental impact throughout the project to minimise our carbon footprint.
